India Città Aperta Festival Returns to Rome with Gender-Focused Performances

The India Città Aperta festival returns to Teatro India in Rome, running until July 31. Curated by Teatro di Roma in collaboration with Dominio Pubblico ETS, the program features dance, music, theater, and talks, with a section dedicated to younger generations. Two highlighted performances are Lorenzo Maragoni's "Tipico maschio italiano" and Chiara Becchimanzi's "Eroine." Maragoni, a slam poet, uses an autotune microphone to explore male stereotypes, privilege, and vulnerability, engaging the audience with humor and personal stories. Becchimanzi, a stand-up comedian and writer, blends myth, pop culture, and political commentary to deconstruct female archetypes and reverse mansplaining. Both works use irony and music to critique gender norms and advocate for personal freedom. The festival transforms the theater into a social agora, fostering community dialogue.
