Hong Kong's 2026 Art Month Sees Market Revival and Local Initiatives Amid Global Fair Circuit

In March 2026, the art scene in Hong Kong demonstrated its strength as Art Basel drew 240 galleries and welcomed 91,500 attendees. Simultaneously, the 11th edition of Art Central showcased over 100 galleries alongside new boutique fairs, auction previews, and institutional exhibitions. Christie's and Sotheby's together achieved sales nearing USD 200 million, highlighted by Joan Mitchell's diptych selling for USD 17.6 million and Gerhard Richter's artwork fetching USD 11.7 million. David Zwirner recorded sales of a Liu Ye piece for USD 3.8 million and a Marlene Dumas artwork for USD 3.5 million. Local projects included Knotting Space, ArtHouse Tai Hang, and Pavilion, while the SIDE SPACE event featured nine dealers, with fundraising efforts led by Florence Lam. This followed a difficult 2025.
