Helsinki Biennial 2027 Reveals Theme 'Unknowns' and Initial Artist List

The upcoming Helsinki Biennial 2027, curated by Mami Kataoka and Arja Miller, will bear the title 'Unknowns'. This event is set to showcase approximately 45 artists and collectives, delving into the theme of the unknown through various lenses such as physical science, astronomy, geology, spirituality, mythology, and abstraction. The curators conveyed their excitement about the selected artists, who challenge the boundaries of knowledge and highlight the connections among all living entities. Among the first announced participants are Ari Bayuaji, Tara Donovan, Laurent Grasso, Marguerite Humeau, Matias Karsikas, Britta Marakatt-Labba, Ragnhild May, Yoshitomo Nara, Josefina Nelimarkka, Tawatchai Puntusawasdi, Anna Retulainen, and Jakob Kudsk Steensen. The biennial is scheduled for 6 June to 19 September 2027 at Vallisaari Island, Esplanade Park, and the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM).
