HBO's Harry Potter Series Sets December 25, 2026 Premiere with New Cast and Hans Zimmer Score

HBO Max will premiere its Harry Potter television adaptation on December 25, 2026, nearly three years after Warner Bros. Discovery announced the project on April 12, 2023. The series, showrun by Francesca Gardiner with Mark Mylod as executive producer and director, will adapt all seven novels, with the first two seasons shot together in summer 2025. Newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout lead as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, chosen from over 30,000 applicants by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann. The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Warwick Davis reprising his film role as Flitwick. Hans Zimmer, via Bleeding Fingers, will compose an original score. The first full trailer debuted March 25, 2026, introducing a new logo and music. J.K. Rowling serves as executive producer, a decision that has sparked boycott calls from some fans. HBO Max will stream the series exclusively. Episode counts and release pattern remain unconfirmed, with early reports suggesting six to eight episodes per season. Warner Bros. Discovery executives, including JB Perrette and Casey Bloys, have described the show as a '10-year journey' and a 'faithful adaptation.'
