Gribouillis! Festival in Bordeaux Celebrates Independent Comics with 70 Authors

The Gribouillis! festival in Bordeaux, dedicated to independent comics and children's books, returns for its sixth edition from September 10 to 13, 2026. The event features a book fair from September 11 to 13, workshops, screenings, and drawing parties, all free of charge across multiple venues in the city. This year, 50 independent publishers and around 70 authors participate, with exhibitions running until the end of October. A highlight is the retrospective of Quebecois cartoonist Michel Rabagliati, winner of the Audience Prize at Angoulême in 2010 for 'Paul à Québec'. His alter ego Paul is showcased at the Mériadeck library starting September 5, coinciding with the release of his new book 'Y a d'la joie' (published by La Pastèque). The library also presents lyrical watercolors and gouaches by Valfret and intimate landscapes by Fanny Dreyer, both of whom undertook a mini artist residency in the Ossau Valley in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. At the Espace Saint-Rémi, Emmanuel Lantam's rich universe, influenced by Little Nemo and Jérôme Bosch, is on display from September 5 to 30. Swedish artist Erik Svetoft, known for his horrific grotesque style, exhibits original plates and new figurines at the BAG gallery starting September 9. The festival takes place at various locations in Bordeaux, including the main venue at 12 Cours du 30 Juillet.
