Gibellina's Summer 2021: Art, Theatre, and Photography Festivals Mark Multiple Anniversaries

Gibellina, a town in the province of Trapani, Sicily, is hosting an intense summer 2021 calendar of art, theatre, and photography events, marking several anniversaries: ten years since the death of founder Ludovico Corrao, forty years since the first performance of Emilio Isgrò's Sicilian rewriting of Aeschylus's Oresteia, one hundred years since the birth of Leonardo Sciascia and Joseph Beuys, and seven hundred years since Dante's death. The MAC (Museo di Arte Contemporanea) has been renamed Museo Ludovico Corrao and features restored works, a new photographic section, and a collection spanning from Futurism to Transavanguardia. The Gibellina Photoroad festival has been renamed Images Gibellina, directed by Arianna Catania and Stefano Stoll, with 31 exhibitions and events from July 30 to August 1, including homages to Luigi Ghirri and works by Stephen Gill, Bruce Gilden, and Maurizio Galimberti. The Orestiadi theatre festival includes performances by Virgilio Sieni, Sergio Rubini, and Vinicio Capossela on the Cretto di Burri, and a tribute to Patrick Zaki. The events are organized by the Fondazione Orestiadi, the Comune di Gibellina, and the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura.
