Getxophoto 2027 Announces 'Marea' Theme and Cale Garrido as Curator

Getxophoto has announced that its upcoming 21st edition in 2027 will be curated by Cale Garrido, themed 'marea' (tide). This theme is inspired by the natural phenomenon of tides, examining how images shift and gain new interpretations as they transition across different contexts. An international open call for projects is now underway, encouraging submissions that reflect on the fluid nature of images and their social, cultural, and ecological implications. Works in photography, video, installation, performance, digital art, and other visual forms are welcome until 3 November 2026. A jury, including Monica Allende, Victoria Ismach, John Fleetwood, and Cale Garrido, will select three projects for inclusion in Getxophoto 2027. Garrido, based in Hamburg, has a background in curating exhibitions and editorial projects for various institutions and festivals, focusing on social and ecological themes. She follows a line of previous curators such as Alejandro Castellote and Frank Kalero. The festival aims to delve into the transformations of contemporary imagery, with 'marea' emphasizing the forces that drive these changes and their effects on perception.
