Gerasimos Platanas: A Visual Vocabulary at Liquida Photofestival

Greek photographer Gerasimos Platanas will exhibit his work at the Liquida Photofestival in Turin from May 8 to 11, 2025. Platanas began photographing in 2007, driven by a deep need for artistic expression. His visual language is shaped by daily practice, reading, and introspection, with significant influence from filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, whose poetic and cinematic depth taught him the value of atmosphere and hidden meaning in natural elements. Platanas describes his photography as a form of contemplation, an inner necessity, and a journey to discover a new cosmos. He emphasizes that his influences come more from music and literature than from other photographers, creating an inner atmosphere he seeks to express through the camera. Over the years, he has built a personal visual vocabulary, where each image is like discovering a new letter of an alphabet, allowing greater freedom to compose visual sentences. His work is presented as a silent dialogue between the visible and invisible worlds, seeking intimacy and truth rather than easy aesthetics.
