Gê Viana's 'Radiola de Promessa' Featured in Art Lovers Movie Club Screening

The Art Lovers Movie Club is presenting a video work by Maranhão-based artist Gê Viana titled 'Radiola de Promessa' from 2025. The piece explores radiolas, large custom sound systems from Maranhão, Brazil, which are used in local celebrations and reggae parties. Viana portrays these structures as altar-like, connecting them to Tambor de Mina traditions, a religion blending African and Indigenous Brazilian elements that employs drums in worship. In the video, scenes of preparation such as kneading dough and woodcutting lead to music blasting from the radiola, capturing life immersed in rhythm.
