Garance: New French Cinematic Heritage Portal Launches with 180,000 Works
Garance, a distinctive free online portal for cinematic heritage, has been introduced by seven French institutions. This platform consolidates collections from the CNC, Cinémathèque de Corse, Cinémathèque française, Cinémathèque Gnidzaz de Martigues, Cinémathèque de Grenoble, Cinémathèque de Toulouse, and Institut Jean Vigo, featuring 180,000 works dating from 1892 to the present, such as films, trailers, and 50,000 posters. Unlike a streaming service, access to view content is subject to each institution's regulations. Users can explore collections and find editorial content about film history. The site highlights obscure professions and provides films from 1895 to 1950 for online viewing. It also showcases exhibitions, including "Dos au mur" at Cinémathèque de Toulouse until November 25. The launch aligns with Jeanne Herry's film Garance.
