Frieze Seoul 2026 Debuts Two Curated Sections: Material Practice and Spotlight
Frieze Seoul, scheduled for September 2–5 at COEX in Gangnam, will introduce two new curated sections on Level 3. "Material Practice" focuses on collectible design and contemporary art and craft, highlighting works in ceramics, wood, glass, metal, hanji, textiles, and paper. The Arumjigi Culture Keepers Foundation will create an installation inspired by Korean hanok architecture, featuring a sarangbang made with hanji and a hospitality space with ceramics by Kwon Dae-sup, Lee Hun-chung, and Inchin Lee, plus bamboo work by Cho Dae-yong. Soluna Fine Art will present eight artists, including Dahye Jeong (LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize 2022 winner) and Jongjin Park (2026 winner). "Spotlight" will reappraise 15 overlooked 20th-century artists, including photographer Han Youngsoo (documenting postwar Seoul), Myanmar conceptual artist Po Po (with previously unexhibited works made under political isolation), and Suk Ran Hi (six decades of abstraction). Curators: Hyeyoung Cho (former ceramic artist, expert in Korean applied arts) oversees "Material Practice," while Wonseok Koh (director of Line Cultural Foundation, former chief curator at Seoul Museum of Art) manages "Spotlight."
