Frieze London Diary: Toilet Cakes, Penny Combs and a Magritte Stetson

festival-fair · 2026-10-14

At Frieze London, Gray Wielebinski showcased his toilet art piece, Production, which included deodorising cakes in shades of black and maroon, designed to be "pissed on." He described it as a "dream commission," though he was taken aback to see staff using the restrooms during the setup. The artworks are equipped with security tags, and some may be sold after the fair. In Bloomsbury, Richard Wentworth and Andy Holden offered plastic tail combs for just a penny at Fisher antiques. At the Minor Attractions fair, visitors could pay £1 for a chance to win prizes using Savannah Harris's claw machine. Frieze week kicked off with a pub quiz at Hauser & Wirth's Audley pub, led by David Hoyle. Meanwhile, Art of London and the Royal Academy unveiled a free immersive experience in Piccadilly and Mayfair. Additionally, Gagosian's exhibition on Magritte displayed a Stetson that was gifted to René Magritte in 1965.
