festival-fair · 2026-04-02

Frieze has revealed collaborative initiatives with several New York cultural organizations to coincide with its May fair. The Whitney Museum of American Art will present Jonathan González's 'Body Configurations' (2023–25), a series created for the Whitney Biennial. Simultaneously, Dia Art Foundation will exhibit David Lamelas's 1972 video work 'To Pour Milk into a Glass' alongside other pieces. These arrangements highlight evolving connections between commercial art events and public institutions. In other developments, Patsy Phillips of the Cherokee Nation will step down as director of the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts in June, concluding an 18-year tenure. Her career includes positions at ATLATL in Phoenix and the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. Additional announcements include Deana Lawson and Brandon Ndife being named residents for the Speed Art Museum's 2026 Sam Gilliam Visiting Artist Program. The Estate of Pope.L is now represented by Gladstone Gallery in partnership with Modern Art in London and Vielmetter in Los Angeles. Jessica Silverman gallery has added Koak to its roster, while Galatea in São Paulo and Salvador now represents Mucki Botkay. Filmmaker Steve McQueen received the 2026 Erasmus Prize, and Colectivo Los Ingrávidos earned the 2026 Schering Stiftung Award for Artistic Research. An exhibition at the Racine Art Museum features works incorporating PEEPS® marshmallow candies, including Korinthia Klein's 'C-PEEP Machine' (2026).
