Four Brazilian Galleries Join Art Basel Hong Kong's Virtual Viewing Rooms
In February 2020, the Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK) edition was called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, prompting the introduction of a digital platform. From March 20 to 25, viewers could access ABHK's online viewing rooms through artbasel.com/viewingrooms and the Art Basel app, featuring 235 galleries, among which were four Brazilian galleries backed by Projeto Latitude. The first Viewing Rooms drew in 250,000 visitors and displayed over 2,000 artworks, collectively valued at more than US$250 million. Nearly 90% of the galleries that were slated for the in-person fair participated, including notable names like Gagosian and Pace. Featured works included pieces by Yayoi Kusama, a solo showcase of Woody de Othello, and Philippe Parreno's installation My Room is Another Fishbowl. Adeline Ooi remarked positively on the alternative platform.
