Filippo Papa's International Performance Art Tour 2026: Body as Ritual Across Italy, Spain, France

Italian performance artist Filippo Papa is undertaking the International Performance Art Tour 2026, a series of ritualistic performances spanning Italy, Spain, and France from July to November 2026. The tour is not a conventional tour but a project where each stop generates an autonomous work, inseparable from its geographic and symbolic context. The first performance, titled Materia Nascente, took place on July 24-25, 2026, in Carrara, Italy, as part of the third edition of C/ART – Creativi in dialogo, a creativity festival organized by the Municipality of Carrara within the framework of Carrara Città Creativa UNESCO. The performance explored Tuscan earth and local marble dust as materials. Subsequent stops include Granada, Spain, and a gallery in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France, with the tour culminating in November 2026. The project involves four locations, four actions, and four different interpretations of the relationship between body, matter, and memory. Papa's work is known for its ritualistic approach, often engaging with the physical and symbolic properties of materials. The tour is expected to produce works that are born directly from the performative process, emphasizing the ephemeral and site-specific nature of performance art.
