FASHIONCLASH Stages Maastricht Helden Fashion Show with 18 Contemporary Looks
As part of Maastricht Jaar 2026, FASHIONCLASH showcased the Maastricht Helden (Icons) Fashion Show during the Stadsparade, featuring 18 modern costumes that reinterpret the historical figures, mythologies, and cultural concepts of the Dutch city. A collaboration of ten independent local fashion and costume designers, along with eight students from the Scenography & Costume Design program at Toneelacademie Maastricht, brought these icons to life as they might appear in contemporary society. The creations, which include representations of historical pioneers, scientists, queer activists, carnival figures, and sports personalities, emphasize tactile experimentation, architectural forms, and theatrical elements. Photographer Jurgen de Vries captured all 18 designs against the backdrop of Maastricht's contemporary architecture. Among the notable participants was 82-year-old visual artist Tiel Janssen, invited to embody an icon herself, and student costumes were crafted during a moulage workshop led by Nana Rossbach. The Municipality of Maastricht supported this initiative.
