Emerging Art Fairs in Hong Kong Introduce Innovative Formats During Art Week

During Hong Kong Art Week, several new art fairs are launching with distinct approaches to viewing and selling art. ArtHouse Tai Hang, led by former Christie's executive Jacky Ho, displays works by 50 artists across ten locations in Tai Hang until March 25, inspired by Venice's scattered cultural venues and Seoul's community-driven events, with a fee structure where galleries pay only upon sale. Check-in, organized by Alex Chan of The Shophouse gallery in Wan Chai until March 29, features portable artworks from nine galleries that fit in suitcases, along with daily performances, aiming to reduce costs after lessons from the previous Supper Club fair. Pavilion, founded by Ysabelle Cheung and Willem Molesworth, runs at H Queen's in Central until March 28 with around 25 galleries, offering a boutique alternative to traditional high-pressure fairs. Art Central returns for its 11th edition at the Central Harbourfront until March 29, introducing a 'Central Stage' section highlighting mid-career artists like Elnaz Javani and Marta Frėjutė. These events reflect efforts to adapt the art market with more accessible and community-focused models.
