Electrónica en Abril Festival Returns to Madrid with Experimental Electronic Music Focus

festival-fair · 2026-03-30

The Electrónica en Abril festival returns to La Casa Encendida in Madrid from April 9 to 12, presenting its second edition focused on innovative electronic music exploration. Curated by Elisa Luengo, the program emphasizes live concert formats where electronic music is performed interactively. The festival opens with the Spanish premiere of 'A World of Service (AWOS),' an audiovisual collaboration between artist JASSS (Silvia Jiménez Álvarez) and visual creator Ben Kreukniet, creating an immersive experience combining light, video, and sound in the venue's courtyard. American multidisciplinary artist Lyra Pramuk, based in Berlin, presents her live show 'Hymnal,' blending processed vocals with electronic elements, alongside conducting a workshop called 'Listening Together' for music professionals. Another notable performance is 'The Silver Thread,' featuring British producer Shackleton alongside vocalist Siddhartha Belmannu, percussionist Giridhar Udupa, and multi-instrumentalist Wacław Zimpel, merging experimental dubstep with Indian classical traditions. Venezuelan collective weed420 makes its European debut with a radical sound collage incorporating samples from buses, radio ads, and popular rhythms like merengue and salsa. The festival expands its educational dimension through masterclasses and workshops developed with Fundación SGAE and the Ministry of Culture, covering topics from music production to independent label management. Club programming extends to Villanos venue with artists like Rosa Pistola, Damián Schwartz, and Animistic Beliefs, curated by Laura Pacas and Eris de Egaña of Alimentación Ming Zhu collective. The European TMLAB project supports emerging artists from underrepresented communities. The festival concludes with French harpist Ange Halliwell presenting a family concert that reconfigures the traditional harp in contemporary contexts. Electrónica en Abril demonstrates how sound can become collective creation through technology, memory, and shared experience.
