EDIT CULT 2026 in Naples: Margherita Rui's Common Ground and the Wertheims' Crochet Coral Reef

festival-fair · 2026-10-20

EDIT Napoli 2026's Cult program placed contemporary design installations inside historic Neapolitan sites, with the Chiaia district serving as the main stage. Churches, palaces, museums and less expected architectural spaces hosted temporary works, turning the city's layers of history and craftsmanship into part of the exhibition itself. Inside the Church of Santa Caterina da Siena, Margherita Rui presented Common Ground, a project uniting five Italian manufacturers: NasonMoretti, Fornace Brioni, Fortuny, Imolarte and Amenta Incisioni. The table functioned as a site of gathering and shared cultural heritage, with ceramics, textiles and glass arranged in response to the church's proportions and atmosphere rather than in competition with them. At the Museo Diego Aragona Pignatelli Cortes, housed in Villa Pignatelli on the Riviera di Chiaia, Margaret and Christine Wertheim's Crochet Coral Reef was shown in collaboration with Museum Frieder Burda. Thousands of crocheted coral forms build an underwater landscape that joins art, mathematics, environmental awareness and collective craft. Bad weather nearly kept the installation closed before the visit went ahead. Hue & Eye reported from the fair with a stated focus on independent perspectives and projects deserving a second look, rather than exhaustive or first-to-publish coverage. The publication plans follow-up interviews and stories from EDIT Napoli 2026.
