DTCC to Tokenize DTC-Custodied Assets on Stellar Network by 2027

On May 27, the Stellar Development Foundation and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) revealed a strategy to facilitate the tokenization of assets held by The Depository Trust Company (DTC) on the Stellar network, with implementation anticipated in the first half of 2027. This move incorporates Stellar into DTCC's multi-chain approach, building on previous collaborations with Digital Asset and the Canton Network. Initial applications will focus on Russell 1000 equities, major index ETFs, and US Treasuries. The pilot, governed by a SEC No-Action Letter from December 2025, will run for three years and includes requirements for registered wallets, participant vetting, and adherence to AML, KYC, and OFAC regulations. Initially, tokenized positions will allow transfers under a free-of-value model rather than full on-chain settlement. In 2025, DTCC handled around $4.7 quadrillion in securities transactions, while DTC managed custody for $114 trillion in securities across more than 150 nations. By March 31, 2026, the market cap for tokenized real-world assets had risen by 256.7% to $19.32 billion, according to CoinGecko. DTC plans to launch its tokenization service in the latter half of 2026 prior to the Stellar integration.
