Digital LEGO Botanical Field Kit Revives 19th-Century Naturalist Aesthetics

Designer Marco B. created the Botanical Field Kit, a digital LEGO build that reimagines 19th-century naturalist exploration equipment. The project blends vintage aesthetics with botanical illustration and scientific instrument design. Using LEGO elements digitally, Marco B. crafted a portable case containing magnifying devices, specimen jars, botanical sketches, and precision tools. The designer aimed to produce a functional, narrative-driven object evoking nostalgia for botanical fieldwork. Warm tones and soft lighting contribute to a contemplative atmosphere in this digital model. The work explores intersections between product design, still-life composition, and storytelling through miniature objects. Gold detailing on the tools enhances the vintage-inspired aesthetic. The project was submitted through designboom's DIY submissions feature and edited by Christina Vergopoulou. The LEGO Group served as client for this conceptual exploration of botanical documentation tools.
