Dennis McNett's March of Medusa IV Brings Swoon, Shepard Fairey and Add Fuel to Asbury Park Boardwalk

In Asbury Park, New Jersey, Dennis McNett organized the fourth annual March of Medusa, featuring a vibrant procession of handmade masks, flags, and mythological figures parading along the boardwalk with local artists and community members. McNett's Wolfbat practice is inspired by woodcut art, folklore, and carnival traditions. Contributions included masks and sculptures from Swoon, Adam Wallacavage, Jodi Rice, Steve Olson, and Jude Harzer, while flags were provided by Ben Venom, and music was performed by the Ocean Avenue Stompers. The event coincided with the Sea.Hear.Now festival in September, which attracted thousands for performances by the Strokes, Pixies, and Fontaines D.C. Additionally, Portuguese artist Add Fuel unveiled his Carnival Nautical mural at the First Avenue Pavilion, integrating Asbury Park's maritime architecture into his blue-and-white tile designs. Shepard Fairey returned with portraits of Chuck D and Joe Strummer, honoring punk legends and restoring his previous megaphone mural. Photographer Martha Cooper captured the event for the Wooden Walls Project, all set against Asbury Park's rich history as a late-19th-century seaside resort and carnival town.
