Dear Van Gogh: Free expansion for Sky: Children of the Light

Thatgamecompany has released a free expansion titled 'Dear Van Gogh' for its online multiplayer game Sky: Children of the Light. The expansion, launching July 17, 2026, allows players to explore the life and works of Vincent van Gogh in virtual 3D spaces. It focuses on the correspondence between Vincent and his brother Theo, narrated from the perspective of Theo's wife, Johanna 'Jo' van Gogh-Bonger. The season includes nine new areas, missions, and customization options. Sky: Children of the Light, which has been downloaded over 300 million times since its 2019 launch, is free on Android, iOS, Windows, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch. The game, known for its non-violent cooperative gameplay, continues the legacy of Thatgamecompany's Journey (2012). Previous collaborations include the Moomins, Alice in Wonderland, Shanghai Animation Film Studio, Cinnamoroll, AURORA, and The Little Prince. This is not the first video game collaboration involving van Gogh; a controversial 2023 partnership between the Van Gogh Museum and Pokémon faced backlash.
