Crystal Pite Brings Site-Specific Dance Piece Alchimia to Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia

festival-fair · 2026-10-04

From October 1 to 4, Alchimia, a site-specific performance by Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite, will take place at Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia. Born in 1970 in Terrace, Pite's work is commissioned by Festival Aperto/Fondazione I Teatri and showcases six dancers—four from Nederlands Dans Theater and two from her own Kidd Pivot. The venue, initially built in 1957 for Max Mara, transitioned to an exhibition space in 2003. Pite's performance begins and concludes near Claudio Parmiggiani's 1989 sculpture and features a pivotal segment in a former tailoring atelier. A graduate of Scuola Maramotti will appear as a figurante. Pite delves into themes of presence and absence, likening tailoring to the human body encased in paper patterns.
