Concéntrico 2026: A Colorful Mast and Sand Dune Transform Logroño’s Plaza del Mercado

For Concéntrico 2026, the Brussels-based firm CENTRAL, collaborating with architecture photographer Maxime Delvaux, has introduced 'Architecture for Ritual' at Plaza del Mercado in Logroño, Spain. This temporary artwork includes a large sand dune and a tall mast made from colorful wooden planks that mirror the city’s palette, creating a beach-like vibe near the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda. Surrounded by a low wall reminiscent of Logroño’s ancient defenses, it provides seating for visitors. People can write messages and place them into the mast, which will be burned on June 23rd, the night before St. John’s Day, during a community fire, encouraging playful interaction and shared traditions in the historic square.
