Circulation(s) Festival Showcases Emerging European Photographers at Centquatre-Paris

The Circulation(s) Festival, dedicated to presenting emerging European photographic talent since 2011, is presenting its 16th edition at Centquatre-Paris. The exhibition features 26 artists from 15 different countries, selected through an open call. While no single theme unites the show, recurring concerns among the young practitioners include memory, identity, ecological issues, and social tension. This year's iteration also places special emphasis on artists from Ireland. Five notable photographers are highlighted. Matevž Čebašek (born 1995) presents 'In the Mountains, the Sun is Shining,' a series exploring the fragility of memory through the lens of his grandmother's experience with dementia and life under communism in Slovenia. Davide Degano (born 1990) offers 'Do-li-na,' which investigates the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region where multiple cultures intersect, inspired by his grandmother's concealed Slovenian heritage and examining how landscapes and oral traditions preserve histories omitted from official records. Marine Billet (born 1991), based in Paris, presents 'Reliées,' a project blending documentary and staged photography to explore identity formation among Generation Z women. Maximiliano Tineo (born 1988) contributes 'El Rey Blanco (The White King),' a series updating a colonial South American legend tied to the Cerro Rico de Potosí silver mine in Bolivia, connecting it to the contemporary lithium triangle spanning Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. Dónal Talbot (born 1995), an artist from Dublin, exhibits 'Becoming,' which engages with queer identity and the concept of a 'gay sensibility' as a unique perspective shaped by social experience. The festival runs from March 21 to May 17.
