Charly Hübner Brings Lecture Performance on Election Campaigns to Osten-Festival in Bitterfeld

Actor Charly Hübner appeared at this year's Osten-Festival, held in Wolfen-Nord near Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt, where he presented a lecture performance addressing election campaigns and political figures. He arrived in the region via bus shuttle from Bitterfeld to Wolfen-Nord, a landscape shaped by lignite mining and the chemical industry. For the evening event he wore a black baseball cap, tracksuit trousers and carried plastic bags. Afterwards he took a beer and made time for a conversation, seated on a beige sofa in a former GDR youth club furnished with woodchip wallpaper and a skat table, in a room with a faintly musty smell — an environment he described with the words "Da ist das Heimatgefühl da." Hübner stated he has no interest in sitting on panels and acting as "a social factor"; he would rather "make wind," as he put it. Asked about the frequently heard demand "Erklär mir den Osten" (explain the East to me), he responded that this way of thinking is fundamentally shaped from outside.
