CaoCao's Robotaxi Strategy Targets 100,000 Autonomous Vehicles by 2030

digital · 2026-04-06

CaoCao, a ride-hailing firm listed in Hong Kong and supported by Geely, is implementing a strategy focused on heavy assets to establish itself as a top robotaxi provider. The company plans to roll out 100,000 autonomous vehicles by 2030, leveraging a comprehensive control over vehicle production, autonomous driving capabilities, and fleet management. CEO Gong Xin referred to this strategy as a vital closed-loop 'trinity' for the future of robotaxis. In late 2025, the company intends to introduce an initial fleet of 100 robotaxis in Hangzhou. This year, it aims to achieve fully driverless operations and has recently obtained permission for unmanned road tests in Hangzhou, marking a first for the city. A specially designed robotaxi, created over two years with integrated software, is set to launch this year and begin mass production in early 2027. Gong Xin highlighted strong support from many local Chinese governments for L4 applications, indicating the technology is approaching a pivotal moment.
