Calixto Bieito's Wagner Ring Cycle at Opéra Bastille: Four Operas, Two Cycles, November 2026

festival-fair · 2026-09-22

Richard Wagner's complete Ring cycle will be staged at the Opéra Bastille in Paris from November 6 to 22, 2026, with two full cycles presented over three weeks. Director Calixto Bieito sets the tetralogy in a world of corporate boards and government officials, replacing the gods with business leaders and meeting rooms. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the orchestra. Christopher Maltman performs the entire cycle, moving from a political Alberich to a patriarchal Wotan. Tamara Wilson sings Brünnhilde, and Andreas Schager takes on the five-hour role of Siegfried. The production runs in German with French surtitles. Individual operas are scheduled as follows: Das Rheingold (2h30) from November 6–15; Die Walküre (5h) from November 7–17; Siegfried (5h10) from November 10–19; and Götterdämmerung (5h50) from November 13–22. Tickets range from €63 to €270 depending on the evening. The Opéra Bastille is located at Place de la Bastille, 75012 Paris, accessible via Métro Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8). The production is also featured in the publication's selection of new shows.
