Boras Art Biennial 2026 Weaves Industrial History into Contemporary Art

The ninth edition of the Boras Art Biennial, titled 'Warps & Waves in the Fabric of Time,' runs until September 27, 2026, in Boras, Sweden. Curated by Finnish theorist Taru Elfving, the biennial explores the city's industrial textile heritage through site-specific works by twelve international artists. Venues include the Boras Art Museum, the National Museum of Textiles, and public spaces. Artists such as Sampson Addae (Ghana/Norway), Petra Bauer (Sweden), Nanna Debois Buhl (Denmark), Michelle Eistrup (Denmark/Jamaica), Terike Haapoja (Finland), Kalle Hamm (Finland), Marcia Harvey Isaksson (Zimbabwe/Sweden), Dzamil Kamanger (Finland/Iran), Maria Kapajeva (Estonia), Sohorab Rabbey (Bangladesh/Germany), Yasmin Smith (Australia), and Paola Torres Núñez del Prado (Peru/Sweden) present installations, performances, videos, and textile works. Key projects include Addae's community-sourced clothing installations, Bauer's archival work on women's labor, Haapoja's mural and video on invisible workers, and Torres Núñez del Prado's living textile of moss and lichen with a machine-learning algorithm. The biennial, originally founded in 2008 as an international sculpture biennial, now serves as a platform for contemporary site-specific practices, addressing migration, colonialism, climate crisis, and ecological alliances.
