Biennale Gherdëina Turns 20, Transforms Dolomites into a Future Garden

The 10th edition of Biennale Gherdëina marks its 20th anniversary, curated by Samuel Leuenberger under the title '(Future) Paradise Gardens'. The biennial, founded by Doris Ghetta after Manifesta 7 in 2008, has grown from a collateral event into an autonomous project rooted in Val Gardena. This edition features site-specific works by artists including Masatoshi Noguchi, Chanelle Adams, Augustas Serapinas, Sandra Knecht, Andrius Arutiunian, Evelyn Taocheng Wang, Yuyan Wang, Alice Bucknell, Bas Smets, Eliane Le Roux, Ana Prvački, and Jacopo Belloni. A competition for local artists drew 250 applications, with six selected. The biennial collaborates with the Kaunas Biennial in Lithuania and Museion in Bolzano. A catalogue titled 'BG 1–10' documents the trajectory, with contributions by Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos. Works address themes of ecology, climate change, memory, and the relationship between local tradition and global contemporary art.
