Basel Social Club 2026 Takes Over Disused UBS Office Building

festival-fair · 2026-06-18

The fifth edition of Basel Social Club is held in a disused UBS corporate office building in Basel, running from 4 p.m. to midnight (underground club until 3 a.m.) through June 21 at Erdbeergraben 1. The venue's labyrinthine layout evokes liminal spaces reminiscent of the horror film The Backrooms. Highlights include Chloe Wise's 'Extrasensory' show at KBH.G, with a ground-floor taster of her Alien Melodrama film installation featuring Wise as extraterrestrial Edith. Nick Doyle's futuristic kink bar 'Human Resources' (2024), presented by Brussels's Stems Gallery, uses repurposed cubicle walls and filing cabinets to blur the line between art and corporate drudgery; visitors can spin a wheel to select fetishes and get locked into the bar by the neck. Vincent Moulinet's interactive installation 'Daddy loves you too' (2026), courtesy of Munich's Caldo Worldwide, simulates surrender to power structures, with a semi-redacted email reminiscent of the Epstein files. Xiao Guo Hui's contemporary twists on Van Eyck's Adam and Eve panels, brought by Zurich dealer Fabian Lang, depict body-enhancers as mutilators expelled from Eden. Mark Wallinger's cardboard cutouts of generic 'Non-Player Character' types add to the eerie atmosphere. Bernat Daviu's installation, presented by Barcelona's Bombon Projects, displays his paintings in a mock-waiting room, commenting on painting's persistence. The event attracts Swiss Gen Z visitors and recognizable art world figures.
