Base Sets June 25 Mainnet Date for Beryl Upgrade and Native B20 Token Standard

digital · 2026-06-21

On June 25, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, Base, will implement its Beryl network upgrade. This upgrade will introduce B20, a native token standard designed for stablecoins and other assets, while also shortening Ethereum withdrawal times from seven days to five. Following the Azul upgrade in May, Beryl aims to enhance both withdrawal infrastructure and node performance. B20 tokens, which are compatible with ERC-20, function as precompiled contracts, facilitating seamless integration with current wallets and exchanges. Additionally, the upgrade features an Issuer Toolkit for managing assets and plans for using B20 assets for transaction fee payments. Beryl will also incorporate Reth V2 to boost node efficiency, as Base seeks to tap into the $34 billion tokenized asset market.
