Baan Noorg Collective to Lead Fifth Thailand Biennale in Rayong, 2027–2028
The Thai Ministry of Culture has named Jiradej-Pornpilai Meemalai from the collective Baan Noorg as the artistic director for the upcoming fifth Thailand Biennale. This event is set to occur in Rayong from December 2027 to April 2028 and will showcase curators Emily Chin-Jie Lee, Gesyada Siregar, and Tyuki Imamura. Titled "Sin-Samudr, Turning Currents," the exhibition will delve into the relationship between local and global dynamics. This focus, along with the location, supports government efforts to shift Rayong from an industrial zone to a cultural hotspot. Rayong is the capital of its province and is part of Thailand’s 'Eastern Economic Corridor,' a project that started in 2017. Recently, Baan Noorg featured a three-part installation at Documenta 15, addressing various Thai crises through art.
