Australian Museum's FrogID Week 2025 Yields Over 26,000 Citizen Science Frog Records
The Australian Museum's eighth annual FrogID Week took place from November 7-16, 2025, engaging citizen scientists nationwide. Participants used the free FrogID app to record frog calls, resulting in over 26,700 validated records from more than 14,600 submissions. The event documented 118 frog species, including several endangered varieties, with coverage spanning approximately 14% of Australia. This initiative builds a critical long-term biodiversity dataset to monitor frog populations facing pressures from climate change and habitat loss, aiding conservation efforts. The top contributor was Tommi Mason with 516 submissions. The next FrogID Week is scheduled for November 6-15, 2026.
