Australian Museum Hosts Workshop on Marine Worm Identification Using Digital Tools

The Australian Museum Research Institute conducted a two-day workshop on March 11–12, 2025, at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science in Chowder Bay, Sydney. The event aimed to train participants in identifying polychaete families, which are crucial for marine ecosystem assessments but challenging to classify. Researchers including Dr. Chris Glasby, Dr. Pat Hutchings, Anna Murray, and Dr. Elena Kupriyanova led sessions on digital identification keys like ANNiKEY, specimen handling, and microscopic analysis. Twenty-four attendees from across Australia practiced with preserved and live specimens, enhancing skills for environmental studies. This initiative updates earlier tools like POLiKEY, supporting scientific research in marine biology.
