Art Unlimited 2017: Gianni Jetzer curates 291 galleries at Art Basel

Gianni Jetzer, the curator-at-large for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, has chosen the projects for Art Unlimited, a prominent exhibition segment of Art Basel Basel, scheduled from June 15–18, with preview days for collectors, museum directors, and journalists. This year’s edition showcases 291 galleries and focuses on hybrid works, experiences, and actions, reflecting trends observed at documenta 14 and the Venice Biennale. Artists garnering significant interest include Secundino Hernández, Ragnar Kjartansson, and Susan Hiller, among others. Notably, the section features post-1980 female artists like Donna Huanca and La Toya Ruby Frazier. Additionally, it highlights historical figures such as Richard Smith and Bruce Nauman, while the Italian artists represented are exclusively male.
