Art UK Digitally Unites One Million UK Public Artworks, Including Murals and Street Art

Art UK, a complimentary online platform, has brought together one million artworks from 3,500 organizations throughout the United Kingdom. This extensive collection features paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and digital art sourced from museums, galleries, universities, libraries, town halls, hospitals, and private residences. Among the approximately 70,000 artists included are renowned figures such as Francis Bacon, Agnes Martin, Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Tracey Emin, Paul Gauguin, Constantin Brâncuși, Damien Hirst, and Yayoi Kusama. Celebrating a decade of growth, Art UK plans to start digitizing murals and street art in early 2024. According to photographer Tracy Jenkins, over 6,600 murals have been documented, raising the total public artworks on the site to 21,400, spanning from 1000 AD to today. The portal aims to enhance access to the UK's public art collections, allowing virtual exploration beyond physical visits to institutions like the British Museum, the Tate, the V&A, and the National Gallery in London, as well as various locations in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
