Art Basel Hong Kong's Encounters Section to Feature Curated Large-Scale Works in 2026

Mami Kataoka, director of Tokyo's Mori Art Museum, leads a curatorial team for Art Basel Hong Kong's Encounters section in 2026. The team includes Isabella Tam from M+ Museum in Hong Kong, Hirokazu Tokuyama from the Mori Art Museum, and independent Jakarta-based curator Alia Swastika. Their objective is to bring dynamic interaction to the fair's prominent large-scale sculpture, installation, and performance area. The presentation will feature twelve major works arranged according to Asian philosophical elements—water, fire, earth, and ether—across four aisles. Additionally, Christine Sun Kim will present a site-specific digital work titled 'A String of Echo Traps' at Hong Kong's Pacific Place, extending the program beyond the convention center.
