ArPa 2026: Artists Who Shape Artists at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu

The fifth edition of ArPa, running through May 31 at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu in São Paulo, features a Base sector curated around intergenerational artistic mentorship. Anna Bella Geiger, 91, collaborates with former student and assistant Ana Hortides on a wall titled 'Paisagens pra lá e cá,' presenting Geiger's new large-scale ink-on-parchment panel 'Rota do Bicho da Seda n.2' (2026), which incorporates maps, collages, and silhouettes of Latin America. Hortides contributes ceramic fragments from Rio de Janeiro's Vila Valqueire. Mônica Nador's JAMAC collective, founded in 2004 in Jardim Miriam, offers serigraph fabric flowers sold by the meter. Iole de Freitas, with nearly 60 years of practice, shares her stand with the Escola Viva Guarani group, displaying two new mantles alongside five paintings by Indigenous artists. Ana Mazzei and dancer Renan Marcondes present works exploring bodily absence. In the Main Sector, Eduardo Berliner (another Geiger student) shows at Casa Triângulo, while collective assume vivid astro focus (AVAF) mentors emerging artists. Historical references include Antonio Dias's 'Arid' (1969) at Athena and Verve, and a solo stand for Farnese de Andrade's centenary at Pinakotheke.
