Angine de Poitrine Gains International Attention with Experimental Math Rock and Anonymous Persona

The musical duo Angine de Poitrine, consisting of Khn and Klek de Poitrine, has attracted significant international attention through their experimental approach to math rock. On December 4, 2025, during the Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, France, they recorded a four-song session for Seattle's independent radio station KEXP at ESMA. Performing in distinctive black-and-white polka-dot suits with oversized papier-mâché masks, they maintained complete anonymity and communicated only through an invented language with on-screen translations. Their video appearance generated substantial online discussion in international music forums, prompting English-language media to investigate their identities without success. The artists originated from Saguenay in Quebec's Francophone region, an area with notable musical history including the influential metal band Voivod. Khn and Klek have collaborated musically since age thirteen, exploring various genres before developing their current sound. Their 2024 self-produced debut 'Vol. I' blended krautrock elements with jazz experimentation and Anatolian influences, becoming highly sought after on Discogs following their Rennes performance. This attention led to a sold-out spring tour in the United Kingdom and bookings at major summer festivals. Their second album 'Vol. II' was recorded at Gramofaune studios and Saguenay's Centre d'Expérimentation Musicale with producer Fabien Peterson and support from the Canada Council for the Arts. The duo's music incorporates Turkish, Japanese, Arabic, Indonesian, and Indian musical traditions using non-Western scales, influenced by King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's 2017 microtonal work. Khn plays a custom double-neck guitar designed for microtonal music while Klek employs rhythmically complex drumming techniques. Their self-described 'Mantra-Rock Dada Pythagorean-Cubist Orchestra' style features extended compositions with compressed, high-tension structures. The growing recognition positions them for potential mainstream breakthrough as they prepare for intensive upcoming activities.
