48 Hour Film Project Challenges Filmmakers to Create Short Films Under Tight Constraints

The 48 Hour Film Project is an international filmmaking competition where participants must create a complete short film within 48 hours, starting with last-minute narrative constraints. Lia Rottoli, a sound technician, and Chiara Salinas, a production director, both graduate students in Television, Cinema and New Media at IULM University in Milan, participated in a recent edition in Cannes with a team of nearly forty people. The competition requires teams to handle all production phases independently without organizational support, forcing rapid decision-making and precise planning. Participants must incorporate assigned elements like genre, phrases, or objects into their films while managing writing, shooting, and post-production within strict timeframes. The project serves as an intensive training ground that emphasizes both creative vision and organizational flexibility under pressure.
