16th Curitiba Biennial Returns In-Person with 'LIMIARES' Concept
The 16th Curitiba International Biennial returns to an in-person format after its 2021 online edition, under the concept 'LIMIARES' (Thresholds). Curators Adriana Almada and Tereza de Arruda aim to explore zones of transition in a world marked by technological, social, and environmental transformations. The Biennial will feature works that cross boundaries between nature and technology, body and algorithm, memory and simulation. It incorporates non-Western perspectives and historically excluded cosmologies. The curators emphasize a critical rather than celebratory view of technology, integrating AI and immersive media alongside works addressing migration, inequality, climate crisis, and human rights. The main exhibition will be held at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, connecting with galleries, cultural centers, universities, and independent initiatives in Curitiba, Paraná, and Brazil. The Biennial seeks to foster dialogue between Latin American contexts and the international art circuit, focusing on sustainable, inclusive, and ethical coexistence.
