The creative agency 14islands, with teams in Stockholm and Reykjavik, has developed ShaderGPT, a free artificial intelligence tool that generates functional GLSL shader code from natural language descriptions. This innovation addresses the technical complexity traditionally associated with writing shader code, which requires expertise in mathematics and GPU rendering. Users can input plain English prompts describing visual effects, such as organic motion backgrounds or kaleidoscopic patterns, and receive complete code that renders immediately as a live WebGL preview. The interface includes a text field, a real-time visual output display, and a built-in code editor with syntax highlighting, allowing for direct copying and modification. Multiple AI models are supported, including Claude, GPT-5, Gemini, and DeepSeek, each producing distinct visual results from identical prompts.
