£1.8M Project to Digitise Scotland's Natural Science Collections

This summer, a major digitization initiative is set to launch, aimed at producing around 700,000 digital records from Scotland’s natural science collections. Spearheaded by National Museums Scotland and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the project links to the DiSSCo UK initiative which has secured over £1.8 million in funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The project will primarily focus on digitizing more than 250,000 insect specimens from National Museums Scotland and 388,000 herbarium samples from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh over the next two years. It also involves collaboration with four additional partners to enhance public access to Scotland’s biodiversity.
