Nicola Prosatore's "Je so' pazzo" Traces Pino Daniele's Neapolitan Youth Before Fame

Nicola Prosatore directs "Je so' pazzo," a coming-of-age film about Pino Daniele's early years as "Pinotto," a Naples teenager shaped by childhood wounds, family conflict and a deep bond with his city. Massimiliano Caiazzo, known for "Mare fuori," plays the young singer-songwriter. The film premiered at the 21st Festa del Cinema and reaches Italian theaters on 15 October through 01 Distribution. Prosatore told a press conference the aim was not to tell the myth but what lies behind it, describing a formation story built from biographies, meetings with the artist's family and his own memories of growing up in the same neighborhood. Caiazzo said fear of falling short became a daily companion and a key into Daniele's humanity, and that listening to the songs through the screenplay moved him deeply. Giovanni Ludeno, who plays the father, said re-listening to "Terra mia" revealed lyrics that seem Shakespearean, noting that at eighteen Daniele had already turned conflicts with family and city into something universal. The narrative ends with the historic 19 September 1981 concert in Piazza del Plebiscito before 200,000 people, deliberately excluding the years of consecration. Prosatore said the intention was to hand the myth to the audience without narrating its glorification. The film also uses food and weight fluctuations to explore the musician's fragilities, with the director observing that food is nourishment but can also become darkness.
