Italian Streaming Platforms Bet on Reality Shows as Netflix and Prime Video Expand Unscripted Slate
Following a trend in the US, Netflix and Prime Video are ramping up their production of Italian reality shows. Netflix's newest offering, Physical Italia: da 100 a 1, showcases 100 contestants competing in strength challenges, based on a South Korean format. In 2025, the platform also introduced Too Hot to Handle: Italia and Love is Blind: Italy. Meanwhile, Prime Video began its foray into Italian reality programming from 2025 to 2026, premiering The Traitors and Red Carpet – Vip al tappeto last year, and The 50 this year, with second seasons set for 2026-2027. Traditional television remains strong, with Temptation Island attracting over 3 million viewers, hosted by Alessia Marcuzzi and Fabio Caressa. Netflix opts for batch episode releases to keep audiences engaged.
