Di tutti e di nessuno. The Echo Chamber: Film Festivals as Echo Chambers

opinion-review · 2026-10-01

Claudio Cinus and Anita Romanello examine how film festivals function like echo chambers, where ideas and information are repeatedly circulated within a defined system. Over more than a week of moving from one film to another inside a bubble only partially connected to the outside world, thoughts, plots, and names recur with connections that would seem impossible elsewhere. One example: a quotation from Jorge Luis Borges opened Jupiter, a fantapolitical thriller presented at Venezia 83 out of competition, and at the Lido a couple of days later the Argentine writer himself became the subject of the sprawling documentary Biografía de Jorge Luis Borges, directed by Mariano Llinás, which in its usual playful and expansive tone focused more on itself grappling with the material.
