Columbia Launches Street Tech, a New Urban-Focused Collection

Columbia, the outdoor brand founded in 1938 in Portland, Oregon, by German immigrant Paul Lamfrom, has introduced Street Tech, a collection designed specifically for urban environments. The line reinterprets the brand's heritage technologies—Omni-Shield™ water repellency, Omni-Tech™ breathable waterproofing, Thermarator™ insulation, and Omni-Wick™ moisture management—through contemporary volumes and proportions. A standout piece is the St/rmwall™ Balaclava Puffer, an ultralight ripstop down jacket with an integrated balaclava in the collar, where functional cold-weather coverage becomes a graphic signature. The Striker 3L Waterproof brings the three-layer Omni-Tech™ construction and mountain experience to the city without excessive decoration. Other items include the Mou/tain™ Fleece in hoodie and full-zip versions, with a long-pile, sculptural texture; the Cargo Jogger in stretch fabric with cargo details and Omni-Shield™ treatment; the Heavyweight Graphic Hoodie in 450 g/m² cotton; the Graphic Tee; and the Jacquard Skull Beanie with an Omni-Wick™ microfleece lining. The launch comes as outdoor aesthetics have become a must, and Columbia aims to leverage its history—unlike competitors, it doesn't need to build technical credibility, only reshape it. The collection's success in a crowded market remains to be seen.
