Camilla Gurgone Wins 25th Premio Cairo with AI-Inspired Work Latēre
Camilla Gurgone, a 1997 native of Lucca, has been awarded the 25th Premio Cairo for her latest creation, Latēre, which was presented at the Museo della Permanente in Milan. This artwork, a color print on thermal paper, integrates artificial intelligence and post-production techniques to reflect on the memory of a lost loved one, delving into themes of presence and absence, as well as the role of new technologies in memory preservation. The jury, led by Bruno Corà and including members such as Luca Massimo Barbero and Mariolina Bassetti, praised the work for its thoughtful application of hypertechnologies to enrich human memory. Gurgone, who holds a sculpture degree from RUFA in Rome and a master’s in visual arts from NABA in Milan, will receive €25,000, and her work will join the Premio Cairo Collection. She is also set to appear on the cover of ARTE magazine’s December issue. Additionally, Nino Migliori was honored with the Premio Cairo alla Carriera during the event. From October 13 to 18, the Museo della Permanente will exhibit the 20 selected works, the Premio Cairo Collection, historical self-portraits for Bolaffi Arte, and the 40 finalists for the 33rd Premio Arte, all free of charge.
